Antonio Aricò

Antonio Aricò is an Italian artist, designer and creative director. After earning a double degree at Milan Polytechnic he obteined his master’s degree with a work based on the themes of Design & Tradition, combining the fields of art, craft and design. These theories merged with the poetic of contemporary culture, make up Aricò’s inter-disciplinary practice today. He is known as forerunner of a unique approach that parallels crafts and self-production with industrial design. With each new project he approaches design themes, preferring to focus on the romantic, fantastic and archetypical rather than just the functional. In this universe the coldness of industrialism is replaced by the poetry, fantasy and romance of our past, vividly brought to life in contemporary days.

Uto_03

Uto Balmoral

“I don’t belive in design. I belive in ideas”
Uto Balmoral it’s not me.
Uto Balmoral is a character provokingly created to be a product himself,a project of the designer.
The idea comes from a personal consideration about the concept of the ”Designer as a griffe”.
The consciousness rising of this phenomen gave birth, with declared irony, to the new carachter Uto.
Uto traces his own image starting from the denial of himself in a game of particular balances between the will/necessity of appearing and hiding.
The central thread of Uto’s work is the simple necessity to communicate , to provoke, to generate something into the public, to force out a smile, to cause thinking, to spark off a reaction, to start a process able to go over the aesthetical sense and functionality and centering in this the principal scope of his work.
First of all objects are communicating, they are places where you can find a clear message.

Loredana Longo

She attended a Language Highschool, she obtained a degree at the Fine Arts Academy. A multitalented artist, she uses various techniques and materials to create her artworks, which are mainly site specific installations, sculptures, performances, photographic and video documentation. Her research can be described in what the artist defines as the ``aesthetics of destruction``, a set of visions in which she destroys and reconstructs her subjects, creating very suggestive and scenographic works. One of the most interesting artwork is represented by EXPLOSION, in which the artist builds realistic theatrical sets which then destroy through an explosion and then she rebuilds everything, leaving incomplete parts that testify what happened, the whole process is also documented by a video projected next to the explosion scene. The EXPLOSIONS have been presented in various events, theatricals, museums and private galleries. In the FLOOR series, she builds huge concrete floors, working on the theme of depleted concrete, each tile is made of concrete in which materials emerge that metaphorically testify the subject to which the artist is dedicating himself. In her first FLOOR she drowned workers' clothes of three colors, green, white and red, creating a floor / flag that the people has forced to walk on. Her favorite subject remains the fire with which she works every material, whether it is an explosion, as in the latest ceramics or burns as in her VICTORY, that are velvet fabrics in which the artist burns with an electric soldering. The word VICTORY becomes a provocation, the images often represent dramatic situations or situations of social and political interest. In her CARPET, precious oriental carpets, she burns on the mantle the words of Western politicians, creating a sort of collection of precious aphorisms. The ability with which she uses multiple materials and techniques, certainly is the fundamental prerogative of this artist, who likes to work on large dimensions, never neglecting details. Two years ago she has been the protagonist of a workshops, lasted one year, such as Art & Social Change at Gam in Palermo and the Art of Freedom at the Ucciardone Prison in Palermo. For over twenty years she worked on the national territory and abroad.

Alistair Law

Alistair Law is a British designer. Trained as a structural engineer in world renowned engineering company Arup, working on projects like the new Centre Pompidou by Shigeru Ban before returning to Paris to study industrial design at ENSCI Les Ateliers. His approach combines a minimal aesthetic nourished by his childhood in Scandinavia with a complexity inspired from nature. Light whether natural or artificial is a source of inspiration and influences all his projects. He creates objects that are intended to surprise, that are not always obvious, that put a smile on people’s faces. He builds on his structural skills to give a certain lightness to his work which crosses both architecture and design.

Marcantonio

Marcantonio, born '76.
He attended the Art Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts. As soon as he graduated, he began working as a theatrical set designer and collaborating with various architects.
Soon he started to create unique design pieces while working on an Artistic production. Step by step the two careers began to contaminate each other and his design gets enriched with artistic concepts.
Since 2001 he has been realizing sculptures, art objects and design projects.
The connections between Man and Nature are his favorite topic, with his original interpretation of Nature’s dynamics and beauties showing Man’s attitude to alter the original. He learned from Art how an idea can be elegant, which is why he is always looking for pure and synthetic concepts. ``I never give up irony, irony is a serious thing. If a good idea is also funny, I can't resist realizing it``
He loves the idea that his job is a continuation of what he used to do when he was a child: to play around with anything he found and to create what his mind imagined. Nowadays, seeking the aesthetic component and the concept, he gets his ideas from the same sources he created when playing as a child, daydreaming with what is usually around him every day.

Giampiero Romanò

Giampiero Romanò, born in 1973, is an art-designer from Milan. His background is not made by design school or arts academies, but rather among nails, hammers and paints in his workshop located in the beating heart of Porta Venezia quarter, where he dedicated himself for more than 20 years to the restoration of antiques and design pieces. Thanks to such experience and extraordinary hand skills, he started a fruitful collaboration with Maurizio Cattelan and Pier Paolo Ferrari’s Toiletpaper Magazine, adding his original and recognizable touch in the display of their famous graphics by producing art pieces exposed in worldwide galleries.
His irony and visionary, along with technical knowledge of the materials and manufacturing skills of a yesteryear master craftsman, pushed him to create one-of-a-kind pieces, among which, stand out spectacular wall mirrors, gathered in the collection ANTICHITA’ 3000, which name well represent the concept of his production, i.e. looking at old things with new eyes by melting the heritage of antiques and the art of the past with a gaze to the future, to the newness, to the never seen before, in order to upset the common esthetical canons and replace them with something new and original.

Gio Tirotto

“I act in order to be a bridge that connects thought and message, unavoidable goal of my artistic language”.
Everything he designs comes from the attention towards what’s around him, living or inanimate. If there is a limit between art and design, he tries to erase it and re-design all the existing complicity among human beings and objects. This is the reason why he believes that rituals, memory and imagination are often the essential function of things. In 2012 he establishes PADIGLIONEITALIA with Alessandro Zambelli, where the research project is the basis for the exhibition held every year during the Milano Design Week. In 2007 OPOS selects the RIGHELLO project, mentioned later in 2013 in the book by Chiara Alessi “Dopo gli Anni Zero” (After the Zero Years) in the Messaggeri designers category.
